Disney Update

A few months ago, I wrote about my gf experience in Disneyland. As you can see in the post, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of options available to me. The park also provided a print-out guide that listed allergy-friendly options, which proved to be a big help in navigating the dining scene!

After a recent visit to LA, I thought I'd update you on some changes I noticed: both good and bad...

Unfortunately, Disney no longer provides a handy guide for allergy sufferers. After darting around Main Street to peg one down, I was still empty-handed. It took me waiting in a 50-minute line before I realized that it was a lost cause. A worker informed me that management decided to remove the allergen lists because of "inconsistencies." Apparently, a lot of visitors had complained about the list's incorrect information and cross-contamination issues. So Disney removed it altogether. Their new policy is to have guests speak with a chef before ordering their meals.

I was pretty bummed, but decided to seek out gf food myself. If you're in the mood for something casual, many of the quick-service restaurants offer gluten free buns and bread for their burgers and sandwiches. I enjoyed this scrumptious hot dog in California Adventure - the bun was oven-fresh and soft with a slight sweetness!

While dining at Cafe Orleans, I informed our waitress that I had a gluten allergy. She barely skipped a beat before smiling sweetly and informing me that a chef would be out soon. Within 10 minutes, I was speaking to a friendly man who offered up an impressive selection of gf variations. As hard as it was to choose, I opted for corn cakes topped with vegetable ratatouille and grilled chicken. My food arrived at the same time as everyone elses'. It was fragrant, spicy, and best of all, it was gluten free (: So even though it takes a little longer, speaking with a chef is the best way to ensure that you have a safe and delicious meal.
