While down south, I checked out True Food Kitchen in Newport Beach, CA. The restaurant is
owned by Dr. Andrew Weil, who preaches an anti-inflammatory diet heavy in
veggies, fruit, lean protein, and healthy fats. So naturally, the restaurant’s
menu is filled with healthy dishes that follow his plan. Despite being
skeptical of the kale lemonade and bizarre salads I had heard about, I decided
to go with an open mind and hungry stomach.
Walking into True Food Kitchen just makes you feel healthier.
From the bright décor to the fully-stocked juicing bar, everything seems fresh
and pure. The lunch menu offers everything from light appetizers like the
caramelized onion tart, to heartier meals like spaghetti squash casserole. A
range of dishes are marked gluten free or vegan…and a few are even both!
The rich tastes of fall vegetables have inspired new twists
on the restaurant’s regular menu. I ordered the autumn ingredient salad, which
showcases seasonal produce like roasted brussels sprouts, buttery squash, and
tangy pomegranate seeds. Generously portioned, it was perfectly filling and
left me feeling satisfied.
True Food Kitchen also makes gf pizzas and has many other
options, including mini street tacos, Panang curry and turkey Bolognese (above).
