In my last post, I revealed my undeniable sweet tooth to you
all. Living with gluten-eaters means that there’s always some sort of tasty
treat in the house. Whether it’s a batch of fresh cookies or warm berry scones,
the temptation is enough to drive me crazy.
But I’m diligent about sticking with my gluten-free agenda.
That’s why I was thrilled to stumble upon Mariposa Baking Company. They sell a lot of products online and
also have two storefronts – a shop in Oakland and a stand inside the SF Ferry
Building.
This weekend, I paid a visit to Mariposa’s Oakland location
to check out their selection. Resisting a powerful urge to buy out the whole
store, I walked away with a slab of rosemary foccacia bread and some chocolate
biscotti. The bread was impressive – soft and chewy, but not crumbly by any
means. To complement the herby taste, I whipped up an egg salad sandwich. The
slab is a pretty good size, so I suggest freezing half to extend its life. I
ended up using the rest to make some yummy feta-basil garlic bread.
Remember that sweet tooth of mine? Well, it just so happens
that Mariposa bakes some amazingly
delicious pumpkin-chocolate chip muffins…and they do just the trick. Moist
and fluffy, they’ll make any gluten eater want seconds!
